Retiree Life Insurance Benefits
If you are enrolled in Comprehensive Medical Benefits or the Comprehensive Medicare Supplemental Plan and you die before age 65, your beneficiary is eligible for a life insurance benefit. Life insurance coverage for the Retiree Plan is underwritten by The Hartford, certain policy restrictions may apply. The Hartford is solely responsible for approval of claims.
The benefit is $25,000 which is fully insured and will be payable in a lump sum to your designated beneficiary. You may designate one or more beneficiaries by completing a Beneficiary Designation Form and returning it to the Fund Office. If there is no designated life insurance beneficiary on file, then the benefit will be paid to:
- Your surviving spouse; or if none, then
- Your surviving children, including adopted children, in equal shares; if none, then
- Your surviving parents (in equal shares); if none, then
- Your surviving biological brothers and sisters, in equal shares; if none, then
- Your estate.
