Who is an eligible dependent?

Certain restrictions apply.

Can my spouse and children continue coverage if I die?

Yes. Surviving spouses and dependent children may elect to continue coverage one of two ways thru:

  • Retiree Plan continuing coverage at the same premium rates that applied during the retiree's lifetime. However, premiums for non-Medicare eligible spouses and dependent children of disability pensioners will be determined by the tiered premium structure based on the number of years of eligibility credit earned by the retiree. Please notify the Retirement Benefits Department of the retiree's death within 90 days.
  • COBRA Continuation Coverage: Your dependents can elect to continue coverage under COBRA. The maximum coverage period for this COBRA qualifying event is 36 months.
